4-star hotel
The Sunset Tower Hotel, previously known as The St. James's Club and The Argyle, is a 15-story landmark Art Deco building on the Sunset Strip designed by Leland A. Bryant. During the ‘golden era’ of Hollywood, the Sunset Tower Hotel was one of most glamorous addresses and home to Marilyn Monroe, Jean Harlow, Elizabeth Taylor, and Frank Sinatra. This landmark hotel is also where John Wayne kept an apartment which is now the hotel’s salon and spa.
Perched atop Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, the Sunset Tower embarked on a major multi-million-dollar transformation to restore character and charm by interior designer Paul Fortune when Jeff Klein took over the hotel. While keeping with the original elegant Art Deco styling, the updated design revealed elegant new interiors such as cove lighting, églomisé panels in the walnut cupboards, bold artwork, Hermes-inspired leather benches, and lamps reproduced from vintage items found at the Paris Puces. A beautifully designed Terrace Bar, indoor/outdoor restaurant next to the rooftop swimming pool, and a 7,000 SQ FT fitness and wellness area and sensational Joanna Vargas spa were also included in the renovation. Stocked with Cybex equipment, free weights, elliptical cross-trainers, and treadmills, this new gym offers fitness camps, yoga, and boot camps.
Stylish guest rooms and suites offer floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic city views, Egyptian cotton linens, luxury toiletries, complimentary wireless internet access, and Nespresso machines. Bathrooms come with huge showers and Kiehl’s bath products.
The Terrace Restaurant offers indoor and outdoor dining, plus pool and city views, and remains a celeb favorite. Stop by the iconic Tower Bar with live piano music, excellent food, and A-list guests. Vintage Hollywood star photos add retro glamour to the Tower Bar, where you can sink into couches and upholstered corners while taking in the majestic city views.
This 1929 art deco landmark was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
Rumored celebrity sightings include Jennifer Aniston, Renée Zellweger, Katie Holmes, Madonna, Scarlett Johansson, Emma Stone, Penélope Cruz, Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon, and Anne Hathaway.
A hot spot during Hollywood's golden age and at one time the home for Marilyn Monroe, Howard Hughes, Errol Flynn, Michael Caine, Quincy Jones, Roger Moore, Jean Harlow, Truman Capote, Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Clark Gable and Greta Garbo.
