Perched high upon the hills, between Hollywood & Vine and the Hollywood sign, sits scenic Lake Hollywood, a reservoir held back by a dam designed by the great water wrangler William Mulholland. The Mulholland Dam is an elegant structure that was built in 1924 to provide emergency drinking water for the city of LA. The Lake Hollywood Reservoir is located in the hills west of Griffith Park below Cahuenga Peak and Mount Lee, surrounded by majestic pine trees and serves as a safe haven for a variety of ducks, gulls, cormorants, and other local waterfowl. The mostly paved 3.4-mile loop hike around scenic Lake Hollywood, a 7,900-acre lake, is popular with walkers, hikers, joggers, and cyclists. Depending on your pace, the Hollywood Reservoir Trail will take approximately 2 hours to complete the full loop.

Silver Lake's Reservoir, a 114-acre site, has two dog parks (big and small), a basketball court, and a playground.
