Castaic Lake

Castaic Lake

Castaic Lake is formed by Castaic Dam on Castaic Creek, is located in the Sierra Pelona Mountains in the Angeles National Forest. Castaic Lake consists of two bodies of water; the upper or main lake which has approximately 29 miles of shoreline and a lower lagoon or lower lake that has approximately 2 miles of shoreline. The State Recreation Area includes the Upper Lake and the Lower Lagoon and is a hugely popular Southern California escape. The lagoon is open to paddle boats such as canoes and kayaks and you will also find a swim beach.

You can go boating or jet ski on Upper Lake, and go kayaking on Lower Lagoon. The Upper Lake is for boating activities and includes two boat launches. Jet skiers have a designated section of the upper lake far from fishing boats. Castaic Lake Lagoon, just downstream from the dam, is surrounded by campgrounds. The Lower Lake also includes park areas and picnic tables. Only non-motorized watercraft are allowed on Lower Lake. On the lower lake, you will also find a designated swimming beach area. The Castaic Lake Beach has a lifeguard on duty.

Castaic Lake Campground is located on the west shore of Castaic Lagoon, just below the main lake. There are 60 campsites at this park, providing easy access to the lagoon launch ramp as well as the fishing pier.
