Built in 1967, Fisherman's Village was developed and constructed by the Sheldon L. Pollack Corporation, which also developed several other similar projects in Southern California. The village's architecture is inspired by a New England fishing village, featuring five brightly painted wooden buildings, a waterfront promenade, a lighthouse, a water fountain, and commercial boat docks.
One of the highlights of Fisherman's Village is the beautiful waterfront promenade that offers panoramic views of the harbor. Visitors can enjoy watching approximately 5,300 pleasure boats, yachts, and commercial vessels berthed in 21 individual marinas, including yacht clubs. The promenade is also a great place to spot local wildlife, such as pelicans, seagulls, and sea lions.
Fisherman's Village is home to several restaurants and cafes, including Whiskey Reds, which is located to the south of the village, and offers stunning views of the harbor and a great dining experience. The village also boasts several shops, including souvenir shops, where visitors can purchase mementos of their visit to Marina del Rey.
In addition to dining and shopping, Fisherman's Village offers a range of activities for visitors to enjoy. For those who love puzzles, the Ultimate Escape Room is a great option. This attraction invites groups of two to eight people to solve a series of puzzles, find clues, and escape the room within a set time limit. Fisherman's Village is also home to the Marina del Rey Historical Society's exhibit space and a new art gallery, Counsel and Canvas Art, which recently opened closer to the water toward the Marina del Rey Sportfishing dock.
Live music concerts are held at Fisherman's Village on Sundays year-round, weather permitting, and are free for visitors to enjoy. The village is also the boarding place for City Cruises' year-round dining cruises and Marina del Rey Parasailing (closed November-February), as well as hourly and daily rentals of sailing and power boats, jet skis, kayaks, and paddleboards. Fisherman's Village also serves as one of eight pick-up/drop-off locations for the WaterBus, which operates during the summer only.
Fisherman's Village is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience the charm of a New England fishing village in California. Whether you're looking for a place to dine, shop, or enjoy outdoor activities, Fisherman's Village has something for everyone. So, grab your family and friends and head on over to Fisherman's Village for a fun-filled day on the water.
